Children

I often introduce myself to children as someone who helps kids with their big thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I create an environment where children can show up as they are with their messy, imperfect selves. I meet kids with warmth and emotional attunement while supporting them with their emotional regulation. I enjoy working with both children and teens, understanding that adolescence is a time when our kids are developing their voice and their independence while still needing strong support from trusted adults in their lives.

Regulation is when I am bigger than the feeling rather than the feeling being bigger than me.
— Lisa Dion

Madeline may be a good fit for your child if:

  • Your child recently experienced something “bad, sad, or scary;” or had something happen in the past.

  • Your child worries often or can easily get “stuck.”

  • Your child is easily stressed or overwhelmed by seemingly “small” things.

  • Your child is having a hard time adjusting to changes with family, friends, or at school.

  • Your child has become more withdrawn or gets their feelings easily hurt.

  • Your child is hard on themselves or others.

  • Your child gives up easily when faced with a challenge.

  • Your child is experiencing “mixed up thoughts.”

  • Your child is impulsive or their mood changes quickly.

  • Your child struggles to make or keep friends.

Parents

With the best of intentions, parents often can become overwhelmed themselves when trying to respond to challenging behaviors or emotions in a new way. Not to mention, it can be heartbreaking when we see our children hurting or struggling. Madeline encourages parents to be “bigger, stronger, wiser and kind” (Circle of Security) when interacting with their kiddos. This means doing our best to remain regulated ourselves during times of stress.

When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not join their chaos.
— L.R. Knost

Staying in our “green zone” / window of tolerance ourselves is a skill - one that can be developed by having someone come alongside you during the chaos. When we’re able to remain regulated, we can chase the “why” behind a behavior together and meet the child’s needs.

Adults

Madeline might be a good fit if:

  • You have a history of relational trauma.

  • You experienced a recent traumatic event.

  • You have a hard time maintaining boundaries with others.

  • You often feel disconnected from other people.

  • You feel alone or misunderstood.
